Shadeport Questions We Get Asked
How is a shadeport different from a carport?
A carport has a solid roof. A shadeport uses tensioned shadecloth over a steel frame, so it blocks sun and most rain but isn’t fully waterproof in a heavy downpour. It costs less and installs faster.
Will the shadecloth fade or tear over time?
Good quality UV-stabilised shadecloth typically lasts 10-15 years before it needs replacing, depending on sun exposure. We can replace just the cloth on an existing frame if that’s all that’s worn out.
Do I need council approval?
In most cases yes, the same as a carport. We can help with the application and make sure the structure meets local building regulations.
Can a shadeport be installed on paving or an existing slab?
Yes. We can base-plate the posts onto an existing surface instead of digging new foundations, which is usually quicker if your paving is already in good condition.
